Baseball’s
big weekend news is making for the game of the day, as C.C. Sabathia (6-8.
3.83 ERA) makes his Brewers debut in Milwaukee
against the Rockies. Sabathia struggled
early in the season, but has shown his Cy Young form over his past 14 starts,
posting a 2.16 ERA and striking out 109 batters in 104 innings. The bets and
money have pushed the Brewers from an opening line of -130 at Cris to
currently -250. Another game with early action sees the Cubs’ Ryan
Dempster (9-3, 3.24) seeks his 10th win of the season at home
against the Reds and Aaron Harang (3-10, 4.47). Dempster is 9-0 with a 2.71
ERA at Wrigley Field in 10 starts this season. In another interesting match
up, the streaking Twins look to derail Jon Lester’s recent dominance
for Boston.
Lester (7-3, 3.21) has allowed more than two earned runs only once since the
beginning of June, and both the bets and money are backing the Red Sox. The
line opened at -110 for both clubs, but has since moved Boston to -170 at Cris. There is an
unusually low number of bets being placed on the Rays-Yankees match up, as Tampa ace Scott Kazmir
(7-3, 2.63) faces Andy Pettite (9-6, 4.22).
