Welcome to the MLB edition of Sports Marketwatch, where the Team at SportsInsights gives sports fans unprecedented insight into the sports marketplace. If you ever wanted to know what was really happening on the sportsbook side, you now have an all-access pass with Sports Marketwatch!

The staff at SportsInsights.com analyzes the MLB marketplace to identify which games the public is chasing and which ones the sharps are pounding.  Let’s take a look at what game we are highlighting tonight.

Sports Marketplace – MLB Edition

Recapping Last Season

2010 was another profitable season for Square Plays and Best Bets in baseball.  These two systems combined for 24.62 units won, and only our Premium Pro members have access to these plays.  We will often highlight a game that is included in one of these systems in our weekly Marketwatch article to show you some of the thinking going on behind some of these plays.  Since baseball is primarily a moneyline sport, we will focus more on units won rather than winning percentage.

Kansas City Royals +127 over Los Angeles Angels

This is not an April Fool’s Day joke, we promise.  While most bettors see the Royals as the doormat of the American League, contrarian investing is often taking the ugly team and finding value.  The Angels are currently the heavy public favorite, receiving 74% of all moneyline wagers.

Kansas City opened as a +134 underdog at Pinnacle, yet the line has dropped to +126 despite all of the public action on the opposite side.  This reverse line movement is an indication of big money coming in on the home dog, and Sports Insights has tracked a 5Dimes Smart Money move that concurs.  While it is difficult to know which books to follow early in the season, you can view our 2011 MLB Betting Systems Preview Article to see which sportsbooks have performed well in past seasons.

Many bettors are wary of baseball, but our results show that it is the most profitable sport for our contrarian betting style.  Marketwatch is another tool that you can use for sports investing to help make the 2011 MLB season a profitable one for you!
