Big Money on 76ers Causing Line Movement
The 76ers are going to be good, it’s just a matter of time. At 0-3, they haven’t exactly clicked this season, but tonight could be their time to shine. They’ll head to Detroit to take on the 2-1 Pistons, who are just one of two teams in the league with a 3-0 ATS record.
After opening at +4 and quickly moving to +5 at Bookmaker yesterday, a steam move on the 76ers hammered the line back down to +4 and subsequently to +3.5 a few hours later. It has since remained at +3.5.
If we look at our dollar percentages, we can see that Philly is getting a ton of cash. I expect this to come down as we approach game time, but it should stay above the 80% mark. Though the line movement and money would suggest that sharp bettors are on the 76ers, our old pal David Solar points out that teams in this situation have not fared well.
After going 48-74 ATS last season, #NBA teams receiving at least 80% of spread dollars have gone 0-3 ATS this season. (h/t @SportsInsights)

Will this trend continue? Bettors who were able to jump on at +5 certainly have a better chance than those who are stuck at the current number of +3.5. Then again, you could always put down a little coin on the Philly moneyline, which has gone from +155 to +144.
