NFL Bettors Jumping on New Orleans to Move Saints-Vikings Line Early
In a rematch of last season’s thrilling NFC Divisional Playoff game, the Minnesota Vikings opened as 2.5-point home favorites against the New Orleans Saints.
Bettors immediately jumped on the underdog Saints, driving the line down to New Orleans +1.5 within a few minutes. The line remained there until early on Monday evening, when more Saints money hit the market and moved the Sunday Night Football matchup (8:20 p.m. ET on NBC) to a pick’ em.
Fifty-three percent of tickets have come in on the Saints as of writing (see live data here). However, those wagers account for 74% of total dollars wagered on the spread, helping explain the early line movement.
Sports Insights’ Bet Signals concur, triggering a Reverse Line Move on New Orleans at +2.5.
Reverse line movement refers to situations in which a betting line moves in the opposite direction of the betting percentages, indicating big bets — likely from respected players — are responsible for moving a line.
In last season’s playoff matchup, the Vikings opened as 3.5-point favorites before closing at -5.5 behind only 39% of spread tickets.
As we all remember, Minnesota won the game, 29-24, following Stephon Diggs’ miracle touchdown reception from Case Keenum on the final play of the game.
