NFL Week 1 – Early Line Moves of Interest
1. New Orleans Saints vs. Green Bay Packers
In the upcoming 2011 season opener, the defending Super Bowl champs opened as 4.5-point home favorites at CRIS. However, early betting action is all over New Orleans, pushing the line down to -4.5 at both CRIS and Pinnacle.
Team | # Bets | Spread | Current |
Open |
New Orleans Saints | 632 | 75% | 4.5 | 5 |
Green Bay Packers | 25% | -4.5 | -5 |
2. Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville opened as a 2.5-point favorite at CRIS and quickly moved to -3 across the marketplace. While the point spread has remained steady at 3 since the initial line move, the odds with Tennessee have increased to -115. Sports Insights’ Betting Trends data shows the public is relatively split in this game, so the adjustment of the vig is most likely due to the free agent acquisition of Matt Hasselback by Tennessee.
Team | # Bets | Spread | Current | Open |
Tennessee Titans | 210 | 45% | 3 (-115) | 2.5 |
Jacksonville Jaquars | 55% | -3 (-105) | -2.5 |
3. Carolina Panthers vs. Arizona Cardinals
Arizona opened as a 3-point favorite at CRIS and the public is split right down the middle, with 51% of early spread wagers taking the Cardinals. Even though Carolina has resigned big-name players like Deangelo Williams and Jon Beason, Arizona’s acquisition of quarterback Kevin Kolb grabbed the attention of the sportsbooks, like CRIS, who increased the line to -4.5.
However, some books, like Pinnacle, have taken a less drastic approach and moved only half of a point to -3.5.
SBG Global, which was recently added to Sports Insights’ list of available Real Time Odds sportsbooks, is holding steady at -3, if you’re willing to lay -125 with Arizona.
Team | # Bets | Spread | Current | Open |
Carolina Panthers | 95 | 49% | 4.5 | 3 |
Arizona Cardinals | 51% | -4.5 | -3 |
