2014-15 College Football 4-Team Playoff Odds

2014-15 College Football 4-Team Playoff Odds

After years of complaints about the Bowl Championship Series (BCS), the NCAA has finally caved into the wishes of fans nationwide by implementing a 4-team playoff. There will still undoubtedly be complaints when the 5th ranked team is left out of the postseason, but this seems to be a large step in the right direction for an organization that has been under intense scrutiny over the past few years.

For College Football bettors, this new format also creates an interesting betting opportunity. Although most sportsbooks will continue to offer Championship Futures, a number of sportsbooks will now offer odds on whether some of the nation’s top-ranked teams will make this new 4-team playoff.

Below shows the current teams available to bet in this year’s NCAAF 4-team playoff and their odds via Bovada:

TeamOdds to Make Playoff (8/10)Odds to Miss Playoff (8/10)Odds to Make Playoff (5/25)Odds to Miss Playoff (5/25)
FSU-250+170-350+225
Alabama-130-110+125-165
Ohio State+100-140-105-135
Oregon+110-150-110-130
Oklahoma+150-200+175-260
Auburn+170-250+175-260
LSU+250-400+230-360
UCLA+250-400+240-380
Georgia+300-500N/AN/A
Michigan State+300-500+225-350
Baylor+350-600N/AN/A
South Carolina+400-600N/AN/A
USC+550-1100N/AN/A
Florida+600-1000N/AN/A

Perhaps it’s not surprising the Florida State, who is a +250 favorite to win the National Championship at the LVH, is also a -250 favorite to make this 4-team playoff. Clemson, who was one of the Seminoles main adversaries in the ACC, lost QB Tahj Boyd and WR Sammy Watkins to the NFL and should be taking a major step back this season.

Based on these 4-team playoff odds, sportsbooks seem to believe we will see Florida State (ACC) face Alabama (SEC) and Oregon (PAC-12) face Ohio State (BIG 10) in the first round of the new playoff format. This would leave potential Big-12 Champion Oklahoma on the outside looking in.

Which teams do you think will be playing in this brand new 4-team playoff? Are there any unlisted teams you would like to bet on? Is Florida State being overvalued after last season’s success? Make your voice heard in the comment section below.
