2016 Razzie Awards Betting Preview
The Golden Raspberry Awards, more commonly known as the Razzies, is an award ceremony that scorns the worst films of the past year. While the Academy Awards seek to praise the most impressive cinematic achievements, the Razzies highlight the most unwatchable dreck to grace the silver screen.
These awards are doled out annually on the night before the Academy Awards with ten categories including worst actor/actress, worst screen combo and worst prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel.
The nominations were announced back on January 13th and Adam Sandler, who has transformed into the Meryl Streep of bad acting, earned his eleventh career nomination. That number trails only Sylvester Stallone, who is expected to win an Academy Award for his performance in Creed.
Unfortunately, Sandler (+200) isn’t listed as the favorite to win Worst Actor — that dubious honor belongs to Johnny Depp (+150) for his performance in Mortdecai. For what it’s worth, Depp and his awful glued-on mustache are also nominated for the worst screen combo.
The tables below display the current odds for the five major categories.

It’s funny to see that there are several Academy Award winning actors and actresses who turned in heinous performances this year. In fact, two actors are nominated for Oscars and Razzies in the same year! Last year Eddie Redmayne won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Theory of Everything. This year he’s nominated for another Oscar for The Danish Girl and a Razzie for Jupiter Ascending.
Similarly, Rooney Mara has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Carol and Worst Supporting Actress for her performance in Pan. Julianne Moore, who has received five Academy Award nominations and eight Golden Globe nominations, won her first Oscar last season for Still Alice. This year she’s expected to add a Razzie to her extensive collection for the Seventh Son.
Although I haven’t seen any of these abominations, it’s interesting to see that Fantastic Four (+350) has the third best odds to win Worst Picture despite a 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also seems like bad action movies are tougher to watch than bad comedies. Considering this film had a $120 million budget and failed miserably, I think it’s an interesting option for Worst Picture.
