Weekend Sports Update
In this weekend’s sports update, we’ll look at Sunday’s NFL Divisional Championship games (AFC and NFC Championships) — as well as several other big games on Saturday.
First, on Saturday, one of the biggest college basketball games of the day is the Alabama-Kentucky match-up. This game is one of the heaviest-bet games of the day and the visiting underdog Alabama (+10.5, +11 at SIA) squad is receiving less than 20% of the bets in early action. Please log-in to Sports Insights to see if a play is triggered by one of our contrarian betting systems on this game.
For the AFC Championship Game, here’s some good info on the betting percentages and opening line report posted earlier in the week on Sports Insights’ blog. The public prefers New England, so that our analysts lean towards Baltimore, especially with potential value based on line movement. In addition, our NFL Playoffs Power Rankings interestingly ranked Baltimore ahead of New England at the start of the playoffs. The point spread is sitting on the key number of 7 — and value shoppers may be able to grab a bit of value at Baltimore +7.5 or Baltimore +7 with decent odds.
In the NFC Championship game, surprisingly to some, bettors prefer the 9-7 Giants (slightly), over the 13-3 San Francisco 49ers. Perhaps sports fans remember the Giants’ Super Bowl Championship a few years back — or perhaps fans are focusing on the Giants’ win over a great Green Bay team. Interestingly, with the majority of the bets on NY, the line has edged a bit towards SF, indicating potentially bigger & smarter money on San Fran. In addition, we liked this analysis by the “Who Will Win the Big Game?” authors who say that recent performance is often overvalued.
Enjoy the games and please let us know your thoughts.
