Super Bowl Betting Trends: New England Patriots vs. New York Giants
The New England Patriots opened as a 3.5-point favorite at the market-setting Cris sportsbook but, according to Sports Insights’ NFL Betting Trends, is currently receiving just 43% of all spread bets. With the public pounding the G-Men, the line has dropped to -3 (-105). Undoubtedly, the public is impressed by the Giants performance in recent weeks — specifically their 37-20 shocker over the Packers and their thrilling overtime victory against San Francisco.
These two teams last met during week 9 when New England hosted New York. In this matchup, the 6-1 Patriots opened as 9-point favorites, however the public did not follow their typical behavior of betting the favorite as 53% of spread wagers took New York and the points. Despite this even betting percentage the line moved to -9.5, however, the points proved to be unnecessary as an Eli Manning TD pass to Jake Ballard with 15 second remaining gave New York a 24-20 victory.
While most lines opened at either -3.5 or -4, public betting quickly pushed many of the sportsbooks to drop their line to -2.5. However, some books (including market-setters like Pinnacle and Olympic) have kept their line at -3 and just played with the juice. Pinnacle is currently offering a line of -3 (+111) while YouWager and Carib are offering the best Pats line at -2.5 (-115). For the Giants, the best line on the board is -3 (-115) which is available at Cris, Jazz and several others. We consistently preach the value of keeping multiple books because it is one of the main keys as you shop for the best line.
