NCAAB Betting Trends: Michigan St. vs. Indiana
Tuesday’s College Basketball slate is headlined by a top-25 match-up between Big-10 foes as the #5 Michigan State Spartans head to #20 Indiana to take on the Hoosiers. This is the highest bet game of the day and airs on ESPN at 7pm ET.
Michigan State, after losing their first two games of the year to UNC and Duke, have achieved a 24-5 record and hold a 2-game lead for the Big-10 title. They are extremely well-balanced on offense and defense, as they’re ranked in the top-25 in the country in rebounding, assists, and field goal percentage, and top-10 in points allowed per game, field goal % against, and 3-point % against. To little surprise, the Spartans are one of the top teams ATS in college basketball, compiling an 18-8 record.
On the other hand, Indiana has finally regained some of powerhouse status that they once possessed, storming out to 12 straight wins this season before losing at Michigan State at the end of December. The Hoosiers, much like the Spartans, are efficient on the offensive end, ranking in the Top-25 in both points and field goal %, with four different players averaging double-digit points-per-game. Also similar to Michigan State, Indiana has been a profitable bet on the year, winning 14 of 23 games ATS.
Michigan State opened as a 2-point road favorite at the market-setting CRIS sportsbook and according to Sports Insights’ College Basketball Betting Trends is currently receiving 64% of spread wagers. The lopsided betting percentage on Sparty has pushed the line to 2.5 throughout the marketplace. Another interesting aspect is the Total and the % of bets that are coming in on either side– while public bettors have a tendency to take favorites and overs, this game sees just 22% of bets on the over at a number of 138. This could partly be due to the fact that the Big-10 has become infamous for low-scoring games but still uncommon nonetheless, especially with such a wide gap in the percentage.
So far, none of our betting systems have been triggered on the spread in this game but there has been a Smart Money move on the Over of 138, triggered by Carib Sports.
