College Basketball Betting Trends: Gonzaga vs. Saint Mary’s

Two of the West Coasts pre-eminent basketball programs will face off tonight and, surprise, surprise, it does not involve any Pac-12 teams. In one of the nation’s most underrated rivalries, the St. Mary’s Gaels (26-5, 14-2 WCC) will take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs (25-5, 13-3 WCC) in the West Coast Conference championship game. Both teams seem like NCAA tournament locks, but a win for either team could have a significant impact on seeding and give the victor bragging rights throughout the off-season.

The Gaels are led by the phenomenal inside-out duo of G Matthew Dellavedova (15.4 points, 6.5 assists) and F Rob Jones (14.7 points, 10.8 rebounds). For the Zags, their balanced offense features four players scoring in double figures led by freshman guard Kevin Pangos.

These foes have met twice previously this year, splitting the season series. Back on January 12th, St. Mary’s hosted the Bulldogs and walked away with an impressive 83-62 victory. In that game the Gaels shot 51% from the floor and placed four players in double figures — led by Dellavedova with a game-high 26 points.

The two teams met again on February 10th in Spokane, and this time Gonzaga flipped the table with a 73-59 win. On that night, Pangos was white-hot from behind the arc, knocking down 5 of 6 three-pointers en route to a 27-point game.

Gonzaga opened as a 1.5-point favorite at the market-setting CRIS sportsbook and, according to Sports Insights’ College Basketball Betting Trends, is currently receiving 72% of spread wagers and 72% of moneyline bets. This lop-sided betting percentage has pushed the line up a full point to -2.5 across the marketplace.
