The #1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft was Markelle Fultz to Philly, but he opened +500 to win Rookie of the Year at BetOnline. The #2 pick, Lonzo Ball, opened with better odds at +200. The #3 pick, Jayson Tatum, was a longshot at +1800 behind the #4 pick Josh Jackson (+1200) and others.
We’ve seen some dropoff for Simmons already, but there’s been a positive sizable move toward Dennis Smith Jr, who opened +1200 but now has the 3rd-best odds. If you want to bet a player that isn’t on the list, simply contact your sportsbook and ask if they can make it available. For what it’s worth, it’s interesting to see that Ball opened as a slight favorite over Simmons at Bovada, indicating square bettors would be all over the new Lakers PG.
Here are the current O/U prop bets available for the new top two draft picks via Bookmaker:
- Markelle Fultz Points Per Game: 12.5 (o-250, u+180)
- Markelle Fultz Assists Per Game: 2.5 (o-200, u+155)
- Lonzo Ball Points Per Game: 10.5 (o-115, u-115)
- Lonzo Ball Assists Per Game: 5 (o-500, u+330)
Fultz opened with 12.5 PPG and 2.5 APG at the normal juice, but both now heavily juiced on the OVER.
Ball opened with 10.5 PPG and 4.5 APG. Ball’s PPG remains unchanged, but his APG moved from 4.5 to 5, and now heavily juiced on the OVER.
We’ll continue to update odds throughout the year because there will undoubtedly be changes. For instance, Malcolm Brogdon was an underdog to win the 2016-17 NBA Rookie of the Year AFTER the season ended, but is still expected to take home the award.
