Who Will Intercept the Most Passes in 2017?
Honest to goodness, I just can’t keep up with all of these gosh darned Ladbrokes league leader props. You’ll be going broke if you bet on this prop, though, because this one is tough to predict. There have not been any players to lead the league twice this decade, but it’s not all that surprising if you think about it. The best defensive backs in the league get targeted less and less as their reputation grows, thus opening the door for lesser known players to pick off more passes. Last year, Casey Hayward led the league with seven picks after collecting zero in 2015.

The favorite this season is Marcus Peters, who was tied with Reggie Nelson for the lead in 2015 and was one behind Hayward last season. Peters has a great track record in his short career, but I’d be shocked if quarterbacks don’t start avoiding passing in his direction altogether this year. You can’t intercept a lot of passes if balls aren’t thrown your way.
At +900, the 2015 co-leader Nelson is second on the list. He has picked off 13 balls over the past two seasons, but will be turning 34 in September. Some of the all-time great defensive backs in the league have played at a high level well into their thirties, but I wouldn’t put Nelson in that category.
If you think Hayward can become the first to lead the league in consecutive seasons since Everson Walls in 1981 and 1982, you can snag him at 14/1 odds. Seems highly unlikely, though.
I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if the leader is not listed. Last year’s sack leader, Vic Beasley, wasn’t listed on the 2016 preseason sack leader odds list.
