Jay Cutler Headlines Thursday’s Preseason Slate

There are three preseason games tonight and by far the most interesting should be the Ravens at the Dolphins, in which Jay Cutler will make his debut. The Dolphins’ futures have been getting worse and worse this offseason with Ryan Tannehill’s injury and the subsequent Cutler signing.

Historically, Cutler has been awful against the spread, but that shouldn’t really be applied to a preseason game in which he won’t be playing the entire game. In fact, his backup Matt Moore has been great against the spread in his limited action so Miami bettors will be getting a taste of each.

One trend that could be applied to the preseason is John Harbaugh’s success against the spread.

So far, bettors don’t have too strong of an opinion on this one. Spread bets are split 50/50 with Cutler set to face Ryan Mallett. The spread opened at Miami -2.5 and remains there as of 2:00 PM eastern. The total, however, has gone down quite drastically. Over 80% of bettors have taken the under, which has gradually gone from 39.5 to 37.5 at Bookmaker.

In the other two games, each of the four teams’ respective starting QBs are expected to start: Tyrod Taylor, Carson Wentz, Jameis Winston, and Blake Bortles. The Bucs-Jaguars game at 8 has had perhaps the largest line movement of this preseason. The Jags opened at -2.5 a few days ago, but have since gone to +2.5. The Bucs are getting two thirds of both spread and moneyline dollars at the time of publication.

At 40.5, the total in the Bucs-Jaguars game is currently the highest of the preseason. Unders have gone 10-7 to this point and the majority of bets has been on the under in eight of the 17 games.
