Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin: The Next Big Fight
After what turned out to be a pretty damn good fight between Connor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, some folks may be wondering when the next big boxing match is. Well, good news! It’s in just a few weeks. Oddly enough, it’s between two actual boxers…who would’ve thunk it? As you can tell by the picture above, this fight isn’t going to have the theatrics and fanfare that the Mayweather-McGregor bout did, but it should bring more to the table in terms of the product in the ring.
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be taking on Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin, known as “GGG” to the lazy, on September 16th in Vegas. A lot of titles will be on the line and the winner will be crowned the Middleweight Champion of the World.

Since opening, action on Alvarez has moved his line about 10-20 cents around the market. So far at Bookmaker, almost three quarters of the bets have been on the dog.
Both have excellent track records, so it’s not surprising that the majority of bettors are taking their chances with the plus money payout.
Alvarez is still quite young at 27-years-old, but made his pro debut at just age 15. His record of 49-1-1 (34 KOs) speaks for itself, especially when you consider his one loss came against Mayweather and the draw came when he was 16. He has victories over Sugar Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and Amir Khan — best known for his backyard sports career.
Golovkin is 35-years-old and 37-0 (33 KOs). He hasn’t fought as many big names as Alvarez, but his two most recent victories have come against Daniel Jacobs and Kell Brook — a combined 69-1 at the time of their fights. “GGG” is considerably older than Alvarez, but does have an edge in the size department. He is about an inch and a half taller and has a three inch reach advantage.
Check back over the coming weeks for more updates. While Mayweather-McGregor was a clear sharp vs. square situation with crazy odds, this match will certainly be different. Will bettors continue to hit Alvarez or will sharp bettors cause buyback and pounce on Golovkin?
