2016-17 NCAAF Odds to Make the 4-Team Playoff
The 2016-17 College Football season is now underway and BetOnline was the first offshore book to post odds for a number of schools to make the 4-team playoff. We’ve also added odds via 5Dimes throughout the summer, and here are the latest updated odds.
Alabama opened as the top “favorite” to make the playoffs at +150 odds, followed by Oklahoma at +175, Ohio State at +190, and Clemson at +200. Two years ago saw all the preseason favorites make the playoffs (Alabama, FSU, Ohio State, Oregon), but last year saw a number of big upsets (Clemson +525, Michigan State +550, Oklahoma +800 in addition to Alabama at +190).
There have been some interesting moves since opening in July. Clemson is now +145 to make the playoff after opening +200 last month. USC has seen their odds plummet from +450 to +800, as has UCLA from +450 to +750.
Historically in its short tenure, there’s been a mix of favorites and longshots to make the 4-team playoff, so it wouldn’t be smart to rule out teams like Oklahoma State or UCLA. 5Dimes is currently offering a prop bet on all four favorites (Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio St, Clemson) to make the playoffs this year at +4500 odds.
BetOnline has also posted odds on the winning conference for the 2016-17 National Championship:
