College Football Opening Line Report – Week 3
09/13/2011
Every Tuesday, we take a look at the early line movement and college football betting trends for the 15 most heavily bet games, in terms of the number of total bets.
Team | Betting % | Current | Open | Notes |
LSU | 81% | -3.5 | -3 | The public is still buying LSU after their 2-0 start, and Mississippi State’s loss to Auburn is still fresh in their minds. |
Miss. State | 19% | 3.5 | 3 | |
Oklahoma | 73% | -3 (-115) | -3.5 | In a top-5 battle, the public is having no trouble laying the points with Oklahoma on the road. |
Florida State | 27% | 3 (-105) | 3.5
Boise State | 80% | -19.5 | -17.5 | Four out of five bets are taking the Broncos which has pushed the line up two points. |
Toledo | 20% | 19.5 | 17.5 | |
Michigan St. | 76% | 4.5 | 5.5 | An 0-2 start has people jumping off of the Notre Dame bandwagon. Laying points against the 15th ranked Spartans doesn’t interest most bettors. |
Notre Dame | 24% | -4.5 | -5.5
Oklahoma St | 89% | -13.5 | -14 | Sports Insights has seen some early betting system plays on Tulsa, causing the reverse-line movement. |
Tulsa | 11% | 13.5 | 14 | |
Penn State | 66% | -8 | -10 | There is also some reverse-line movement in this game which suggests some sharp money taking Temple as a home dog. |
Temple | 34% | 8 | 10 | |
Tennessee | 53% | 8.5 | 8.5 | The betting percentages are split for this SEC matchup, which is why the betting line has remained steady at 8.5 points. |
Florida | 47% | -8.5 | -8.5 | |
Wisconsin | 84% | -17 | -16 | The public continues to love the Badgers. They have no problem laying a large amount of points on the road. |
No. Illinois | 16% | 17 | 16 | |
Texas Tech | 86% | -20.5 | -19 | The lopsided betting has moved the line 1.5 points already, but it will be interesting to see if it gets to the key number of 21. |
New Mexico | 14% | 20.5 | 19 | |
Idaho | 19% | 35.5 | 37 | Another example of the line moving the opposite way of the betting percentages. There is some money saying that Idaho can keep it within 5 touchdowns. |
Texas A&M | 81% | -35.5 | -37 | |
Auburn | 86% | 3.5 | 4 | One of the few games where the majority is taking the underdog. No surprise though, as Auburn already has two highly publicized wins. |
Clemson | 14% | -3.5 | -4 | |
Houston | 86% | -7.5 | -7.5 | The line has yet to budge despite a heavy backing of Houston. Not much respect for Louisiana Tech at home this week. |
La. Tech | 14% | 7.5 | 7.5 | |
Stanford | 89% | -10 | -10 | The more people hear about Andrew Luck, the more they keep betting on Stanford to cover. |
Arizona | 11% | 10 | 10 | |
West Virginia | 62% | 1 | pick | Maryland’s uniforms got all of the coverage last week, but a good win over Miami has them relatively even against No. 18 West Virginia. |
Maryland | 38% | -1 | pick | |
Texas | 76% | -3.5 (-105) | -3 | The heavy betting on Texas has moved the line off of the key number of 3, which is a bit surprising considering they barely beat BYU last week. |
UCLA | 24% | 3.5 (-115) | 3 |
