NFL Coaches Props: First to be Fired, Jon Gruden’s Return, More

There’s been an extreme lack of interesting prop bets around the market over the past few weeks. I’ve been chomping at the bit for a nice prop to write about and, finally, Bookmaker came through with some good ones.

First on the list: which coach will be fired first this year?

Topping the list is Chuck Pagano of the Colts. Obviously, having to play the entire season with a backup QB isn’t going to be easy, but many folks were calling for Pagano’s job before the season began. The Colts have actually exceeded expectations to a degree, though, as they have a solid 6-4 record against the spread.

Old Ben McAdoo’s Giants haven’t fared quite as well, though. They’ve also dealt with more than their fair share of injuries, but not enough to warrant a 2-8 record. This was a team that began the year with 12/1 Super Bowl odds at Westgate. The only excuse for a record this bad is if your quarterback gets hurt.

Shockingly, the Cleveland Browns’ coach Hue Jackson is on the list. How does a man whose team has gone 1-25 straight up and 6-20 ATS over the past two years get listed on a coach firing prop? I’d sign him to an extension for life, but that’s just me.

What about Gruden?

Ah, yes, noteworthy football guy Jon Gruden. Who could forget about him? Gruden has been out of the coaching biz since 2008 and in the broadcasting booth ever since. However, some rumors about him returning to the sidelines have been picking up steam. With several notable openings popping up around college football and several more sure to come in the NFL, bookmaker has posted the following odds.

  • Will Jon Gruden be a head coach in college football? Yes +600, No -1100
  • Will Jon Gruden be a head coach in the NFL in 2018? Yes +600, No -1100

Speaking about openings coming up in the NFL, they’ve posted an over/under for new head coaches in 2018.

  • How many NFL teams will have a new head coach in week 1 of the 2018 regular season? O/U 5.5

Stay tuned for any odds changes and hopefully more new prop bets in the near future.
