With the number of betting opportunities in football winding down, in this blog post, we focus on the NHL.  The NHL has been an interesting “animal” this season, with SportsInsights’ Best Bets having a solid season at +18 units, while NHL Squares have underperformed at -11.5 units.

In the long-run, we expect both of these approaches to be profitable.  Typically, Best Bet selections focus more towards smart money and steam moves, while Square Plays have been more traditional anti-public plays.

Let’s take a quick look at today’s NHL marketplace:

• The Islanders-Capitals game is receiving a decent level of betting interest.  The islanders had a horrible stretch for a while and partly as a result, are currently receiving less than 1 in 6 moneyline bets.  The Islanders have been playing a bit better lately — and the smart money appears to be on the Islanders — with the odds moving in the Isle’s direction.
