Unlike Players, NFL Bettors Not Ready to Quit on the Giants

Despite reports that Giants players have quit on head coach Ben McAdoo, NFL bettors cannot muster the courage to follow along. Big Blue are 1-7 SU (straight up), 3-5 ATS (against the spread) and coming off a throttling at the hands of the Rams, yet bettors are backing New York as road favorites this week. Wait, what?

San Francisco opened as 1-point favorites at Pinnacle, the latest in a season a winless team has opened as a favorite since Buffalo opened -3 against Detroit in 2010. Perhaps the market response is closer to a 49ers fade then specifically backing New York, but 61% of tickets and 73% of spread money has taken the Giants, flipping the line from SF -1 to NYG -2.5.

Sharp money also took a piece of the opener, steaming the Giants at +1, according to our Bet Signals data.

The screenshot below, taken from our Sportsbook Insider bet activity dashboard, summarizes how this line has moved since opening, including how sharp action at +1 has helped move the line to the current number.

While it’s accurate to describe the Giants as both the sharp and public side in this matchup, there’s likely buyback lying it wait should oddsmakers adjust this number to 3.
