NFL Opening Line Report – Week 4
09/26/2011
In NFL
Every Monday, we take a look at the opening lines for next week’s NFL games:
Team | Betting % | Current | Open | Notes |
Bills | 90% | -3 | -3 | After a comeback win against the Patriots, the public is likely to jump all over the Bills as small road favorites. |
Bengals | 10% | 3 | 3 | |
Vikings | 89% | -1.5 | -1.5 | The Chiefs and Vikings were both able to cover last week, but are winless. The Vikings are small favorites although the game is a pick at a few books. |
Chiefs | 11% | 1.5 | 1.5 | |
Giants | 80% | -1 | -3 | Some early reverse-line movement as the betting percentages don’t reflect the line move off of the key number of 3. |
Cardinals | 20% | 1 | 3 | |
Falcons | 88% | -4.5 | -4 | The public is all over the Falcons early despite coming off of a loss against Tampa Bay. It will be interesting to see how much the line moves due to public money. |
Seahawks | 12% | 4.5 | 4 | |
Jets | 21% | 3.5 | 4.5 | In a defensive battle, the Ravens are favored just off of the key number of 3. In early action, bettors have no problem laying the points with the home favorite. |
Ravens | 79% | -3.5 | -4.5 | |
Saints | 86% | -7 | -8 | The Saints are touchdown favorites on the road, although the line opened at -7.5 or -8 at some books, so some liked the value of taking the points with the Jags and moved the line back down to 7. |
Jaguars | 14% | 7 | 8 | |
Broncos | 29% | 12.5 | 13 | The largest spread of the week comes with the undefeated Packers hosting the Broncos. |
Packers | 71% | -12.5 | -13 | |
Dolphins | 60% | 7.5 | 9 | In a rare occurrence, most bettors like the underdog and are taking Miami and the points. This has already caused 1.5 points of line movement. |
Chargers | 40% | -7.5 | -9 | |
Patriots | 80% | -4.5 | -6 | Another example of reverse line movement as the Raiders try to upset two AFC East teams in a row. |
Raiders | 20% | 4.5 | 6 | |
Panthers | 34% | 6.5 | 6.5 | 2 out of 3 bets like the Bears to slow down Cam Newton and beat the Panthers by at least a touchdown. |
Bears | 66% | -6.5 | -6.5 | |
Titans | 55% | 1.5 | 1.5 | Fairly split betting percentages as the Browns are small favorites over Tennessee. |
Browns | 45% | -1.5 | -1.5 | |
Steelers | 37% | 3 | 3 | Houston is favored by a field goal over the Steelers. Pittsburgh is a favorite bet by the betting public, so it will be interesting to see how these percentages change. |
Texans | 63% | -3 | -3 | |
Colts | 72% | 10 | 10 | After the Colts were able to cover against the Steelers on SNF, the bettors think they can do it again against the Bucs on MNF this week. |
Buccaneers | 28% | -10 | -10 | |
There are currently no lines posted for 49ers/Eagles (due to the Vick injury), Lions/Cowboys, and Redskins/Rams.
